What is the course all about?
Our Farmer Medical Emergency Course is the first course in Australia that has been specifically designed for workers in agriculture. It covers the biggest risk injuries that may be encountered on a farm. Our course will provide participants with invaluable information, demonstrations and realistic scenarios about implementing life-saving techniques that are just not taught in regular first aid courses. Our course will be delivered to you by one of our highly experienced Isolated Practice Paramedics that have dealt with numerous traumatic injuries and illnesses that have occurred on remote properties.
What will I learn?
The Farmer Medical Emergency Course will give you the confidence and skills in providing an emergency medical response, life support and management of a casualty(s) until the arrival of medical or other assistance.
Elements you will learn are:
Why should I do this course?
Because the safety and wellbeing of your family and workmates is your responsibility.
A farm safety report compiled by Sydney University shows there were 68 farm deaths reported by the Australian media in 2017, which is a slight rise from 63 in 2016. This is far too many deaths and most of these deaths were preventable! The research, by the university’s Australian Centre for Agricultural Health and Safety, showed tractors (13) and quad bikes (11) were the leading causes of death, making up more than 40 percent of the total. Tragically, nine of the fatal cases (13 percent) involved children aged under 15 years, with quad bikes involved in a third of these incidents.
